Anyone have some good stories about people stealing stuff from the restaurant? Parts of the decor?
People are always stealing the decorations around the restaurant, and the crowning glory, i think, was this... It's a pretty funky decor in the place i work, & in the men's room, there's an old medicine cabinet filled with empty prescription bottles. I was cleaning up the other day & for some reason, opened the cabinet. Someone had broken every one of those bottles off the shelves (they were screwed down). I'm talking empty plastic CVS Rx bottles! WTF?? We also have a pair of women's shoes on the women's room door & a pair of wingtips on the mens room door, and vintage hats on the stall doors & I can't tell you how many times they've been ripped off. I can't figure out why anyone would WANT this stuff!
We've also gone through so many salt & pepper grinders, flower vases & table lamps we've lost track. This is a very upscale restaurant, too! It's like people think they're entitled to a free gift with purchase, or something!

Re: Thieving customers?
Sun, February 12, 2006 - 7:53 PMwell, i can say this much. my broter, who was a server and a bartender, and i used to steal things all the time from places. i had a bit of a silverware fetish and his was the best. he had a habit of stealing the "employees must wash their hands" signs from bathroom. he would rip off all kinds of them. very interesting. he would rip the plastic signs, weather they would be screwed, glued or hanging. i would sometimes steal toilet paper, pending on my financial situation and stinginess. hey, i know that every restaurant has an endless supply of shit tickets, so whats the big deal? the place i work now has all sorts of paintings and pictures on the walls. orginal pin up girl calender pictures and we even have a rare picture of President Regean flipping the bird behind a Presidential podium with the presidential seal behind him. I do not know where it came from but it is a real authentic photo. And furthermore, I do not understand why we have it, I mean it really doesnt fit, its kinda random, but it is way cool. That is centered behind the bar so no1 can get to it. All of the photos and pictures are screwed to the walls and are pretty impossible to get. But yeah, I am guilty of restaurant theft on all counts.

Re: Thieving customers?
Wed, May 31, 2006 - 12:24 PMthis year college graduation, mother's day, and high-school prom all fell on the same weekend...hell. Sunday morning before we opened i found half a bottle of our table wine (Chianti) stuffed behind the toilet in the men's restroom. i suppose some prom goer decided he would drink even though he was probably under age...i think it's great, but still had to throw out bottle b/c who wants to drink wine from behind the toilet. But this gave me a great idea for a concept i might actually do if i ever open a restaurant. Fancy liquor in the bathroom, have a bathroom attendent who gives you shots of fancy booze -

Re: Thieving customers?
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 10:35 AMSomeone at work was just telling me about one of our guest in a private party who took everything and stuffed it in her purse, including one of the steel carafes and other odd items. When the items were included on the final bill, before the guests left, they magically showed up again.
I mean come on!!!!! She was getting a free meal, and expensive one too and a guest at a nice dinner party, she had to clear her own table by pocketing everything not tied down? Hell, she probably had the flowers out of the ladies room in that bag too!
Steal from me=steal my wages and chances to get a raise.....bah! -

Re: Thieving customers?
Sun, June 18, 2006 - 4:45 AMMy boyfriend and I were out at a bar and grille with a couple other people. His roomie was moving out and taking the salt & pepper shakers. So he wanted the ones there. Now this is something we don't normally do...but what ended up happening that was even funnier was that one of the other ppl with us was rather well off, and when he saw us take them he was astonished. That reaction alone was priceless. He was all wide-eyed and disbelieving...LOL. I wondered did he think we couldn't afford to buy some? Very funny indeed. So that's my one and only story of swiping restaurant stuff.

Re: Thieving customers?
Sun, June 18, 2006 - 7:20 AMThe flower theives drive me nuts. At most restaurants I've worked, we have just enough flowers for all the tables (with maybe a couple extra) and they have to last several days. When I've stopped people from taking the flower out of the vase on their table they've sometimes said, "Well you're just going to throw it away!" Um... no we aren't and that's why I stopped you! What are we, the Rockefellers? Buying brand, spanking new flowers everyday when the old ones are still fresh? -
