I actually have 2 stories along these lines. One was the other night. Apparently, Nicole Kidman is in town filming a movie & a bunch of the crew (from the looks of things, they definetly worked behind the scenes!!) came in for dinner, making the announcement when they made their reservation that they were "Working on a movie with Nicole Kidman." So before they even came in, i figured they were just trying to sound important. They were sooooo rude about everything, sending everything back ("This ribeye is really fatty!" -- uh, yeah, ribeyes are fatty! "My well done salmon tastes fishy!"-- again, if you cook it to death, it tastes like cat food!) Then they were saying "Well, we're going to tell Nicole about THIS!!"
The other story was about a local weather guy a few months ago. One of those locals who will never get a job in another market... real amateurish. Anyway, his friends bought out the restaurant for a party & "Marty" made up a play list of music. Part of the way through the night, people started asking if we could change the music, so we did. He FLIPPED OUT, screaming & threatening the bartender and eventually went to the bathroom & tore down all of the decorations and plugged up the toilets with rolls of paper towel! Like we're not going to tell everybody about the weather guy run amok?!

I worked in downtown Modesto at the height of the Gary Condit scandal, then again when Scott Peterson was first on trial... it doesnt matter how much fame they have... it all goes to their head. The best person I met was the late Peter Jennings, a consummate professional. Most anyone else on or related to TV/movies/etc has some sort of crazy power ego. I don't know why... it could be the same reason Bobby Flay thinks he is a great chef.

There's 2 big films being done in SF right now....and anyone who knows anything knows you don't walk in and make a fuss like that if you're for real.

Hell, I bump into the most famous people in various places, work and non work related, rarely even recognize them until later, duh, and I'm never impressed. Pseudo Famous? LOL, that cracks me up!

I think the most funny I remember was when Rob Schneider had bought the DNA Lounge a number of years ago, I'm sure he's sold it by now, but anyway, he took some friends on a little tour that included the view from the roof top. Well, as you may have guessed, the door locked behind them and it started to rain. Rob actually climbed down a drain pipe outside to get to the door since for what ever reason no one could hear them. I just laughed my ass off, if it was going to happen to anyone it was going to happen to him! He had a great laugh about it too though.

but thier business manager bought me a $1,200 painting!!!! from a art bar next door!! and he didnt even want in my pants!!

        ahhh. love to love them.

Why I didn't tell this story is beyond me...

I worked for the Fremont Hilton last year... Tommy Lee was doing a DJ stint at the time around the corner from us and stayed at the hotel... He came down to the kitchen cos he knew our chef, they had run in the same circles in the late 80s... Anyhow, he come in the kitchen and is introduced to the staff, blah blah blah, and you know those 50 gallon soup vessels? Tommy Lee gets in one! WTF! He is a trip... I took care of his needs from the kitchen that night, taking up room service, making sure we had the right water etc... He was pretty cool. No ego at all and the whole working for a living fascinated him and he got it.. respected it. It was rather cool. And he signed my Yankee cap that I wear.

John Waters comes into my place sometimes and he's pretty darn regular... well, as regular as a nut like that can be! Doesn't want to be fussed over, but also doesn't really want to be bothered in his hometown. Drinks a couple of martinis... tips well. :)

Some years ago, when I was rolling sushi, the bar closed at midnight.
Dr. Phil was in town doing a seminar, and someone from his production staff called to say he was coming to the sushi bar. We stayed open until one o'clock to wait for the motherfucker.
Finally, they show up, but Dr. Phil is not with them. Apparently they just used the whole name thing to get in the door. I stayed until 2:30 making sushi for those assholes and THEN cleaned up and went home.
On a more positive note . . . about three weeks later, the PGA was in town and I made sushi for Phil Mickelson. Way cool guy, even sat at the bar and tipped me $100.

I cooked Peter Fonda and 23 others for the 25th Easy Rider anniverasy party a few years ago in New Orleans (when there was one) and they tipped $22 dollars for 24 plates of food and drinks.
I almost ran after Peter Fonda and asked him "excuse me, arent you Kris Kristofferson?" after that.

        Sounds like my story Matt.
So I was bartending a few years back at this big night club and the comedian Paul Rodriguez walks in with this freakin' gang of people. You'd think he was a superstar or something with how many people he had hangin on him. So he orders a shitload of drinks. His tab was in the area of about $400.00 and I had worked my ass off going out of my way for this dude and his friends. I get the credit card slip back from him after he signed it. That asshole tipped me twenty bucks on a four hundred dollar tab. WHAT THE FUCK! In the time I spent helping that guy out I could have made at least an extra hundred bucks in tips that night helping out other customers. But no, I thought that Mr. Big Shot was gonna give me a fat tip. He ordered like four drinks from one of the cocktail waitresses and gave her a hundred dollar bill. That's fucked up!

There is just no excuse. There is a level of hell just for bad tippers. I think they probably have to run a lot getting drinks for everyone else there, and what, with the heat & all, it'll be pretty miserable! At least, that's what I keep telling myself!
